No OSC for me
June 11, 2009
I was rejected from Orson Scott Card’s Literary Boot Camp. Ouch.
It’s not so bad, I guess. It was only based on a single page writing sample. Still, I’d have liked the experience. *sigh*
On the upside, I won’t be spending the money. That helps. Maybe I’ll try to get my wife to go to a three day photography workshop in the Smoky Mountains (it was in her photography magazine).
Oh well, back to writing.

Least they were quick about it (not the month of agony with Clarion, right? 🙂 )
Btw, if no one gets around to sucking down the two review points on your story at OWW in the next day or so, I think I’ll steal em. I already gave it a read-through, I think people are being pussies and not reading due to the length, cause the writing was fairly smooth.
I’ll give full review there in the next day or so, regardless.
Thanks Nobu.
It was my experience with Critters that a lot of reviews came in over the weekend. I went back and added a “C4C” to the title as a lure. The story is probably still a tad rough (I read through it and wasn’t thrilled with some of the paragraph transitions), but I suspect it’ll be a decent read for anyone that commits to it.
I appreciate you holding back on the double points. That’s a very nice gesture. I need to go find your stuff. I assume you’re Nobu B?
Yeah, I’m Nobu B. I have a bunch of fairytale fantasy up at the moment. I should have a sci/fi story up by mon or tues that might be more your speed (not that you’ve loved my sci/fi so far, hehe).
And as Jordan said, you got waitlisted, you’re getting there!
BTW, are you thinking of your OWW story for WotF? I’ll try to read it with that in mind if so…(I’ve been reading previous winning stories and such lately to see what flies with them etc…)
Condolences, Scott. Yeah, I’m not sure how they can judge on only a page. I mean, surely writing shorts involves many more skills than that?
In any case, the CW waitlist was a sign that you’re nearly ready. Keep working on your craft!
I just think your dogged pursuit of the work is admirable. This is the first year that I’ve put any fiction out there, really, other than a university competition. It’s still a little scary to me. When you’ve got talent, I think it just comes down to numbers. The more you get out there, the better.
